We’re hiring interns!

We are now accepting applications for interns to join the small, committed team that produces Conservation magazine. Conservation is an award-winning magazine dedicated to making conservation smarter through great writing and great thinking. In every issue, we strive to challenge assumptions, stir creativity, and add new ideas to our field. Our international readership includes some of the most influential people in the field ranging from government officials to top scientists.

Conservation’s internship program offers a unique opportunity to be involved in all aspects of running a magazine. Each staff member handles a diverse array of tasks, ranging from writing to page design to business planning, and interns are often expected to do the same. The perfect candidate has a background not only in writing but also in conservation biology, ecology, and/or related fields.

Conservation’s internship does not revolve around writing and is not an opportunity to accumulate a vast number of clips. The editorial intern’s responsibilities include writing a small number (2-4) of short articles, developing stories, reviewing manuscripts, sifting through academic journals in search of new and interesting conservation research, searching out art and other visual material, and updating the web site. Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to translate academic ideas into compelling prose.

We are currently accepting applications. Internships run for three months, require a commitment of  20-40 hours per week, and include a small stipend. Our editorial offices are located on the University of Washington campus in Seattle.
