A Green Second Life for Staten Island’s Freshkills Landfill
Once an environmental and emotional blight as the world’s largest dump, Staten Island’s Freshkills Landfill has been transformed into one of New York City’s largest managed parks. Not only are flora and fauna returning, but the city is also harvesting the vast reservoir of methane created by the decaying material and selling it to a local energy company.
This film was created by Keif Roberts and Peter J. Haas for the One Day in New York project.
