It appears that in addition to the banning of market hunting, sport/trophy hunting needs to be suspended until populations reach a sustainable level. Only after this can sport/trophy hunting be allowed. In the past, sport hunters have been some of the biggest proponents of conservation policies. In addition to giving species time to recover, the suspension of sport hunting rights on endangered and threatened species will help bring this important group to the side of conservation so that they can continue to hunt a given species.
